Worley to Perform at Benefit at Six Flags
Darryl Worley is one of country music's biggest overt supporters of American troops. Consequently, the singer, always eager to help others, will perform at an event to raise money for the dependent children of American troops who have been killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. The benefit will be held at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey, on July 8th. 6/6/04

New Museum for Miller
Roger Miller was raised in Erick, Oklahoma, a town, as Miller himself joked, "close to extinction." Miller's widow Mary will soon open a museum in the tiny town. The new museum is housed in a 3,000-square-foot historic building at the corner of Roger Miller Boulevard (actually a portion of Route 66 that was renamed for Miller) and Sheb Wooley Avenue. A section of the museum will also be devoted to Wooley, Roger's brother-in-law. According to CMT, exhibits at the museum will include Miller's first motorcycle, stage costumes, and handwritten lyrics. The museum will open in the near future, but its grand opening will likely be this fall. 6/6/04

On the night prior to the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, the Tenth Annual Sizzlin' Country show was held in Las Vegas. The concert, which featured Buddy Jewell, Craig Morgan, and Josh Turner and was hosted by Tracy Lawrence, raised over $200,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Sine 1994, the concert, always held the night before the ACM Awards, has brought country artists together to raise funds toward finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. To date, more than $2 million has been raised for the foundation. 6/6/04

Jewell Honored by Hometown
Arkansas has a "Nashville Star" on the map. Appropriately, Buddy Jewell's hometown of Osceola, Arkansas, recently surprised the singer with a new sign declaring that it is the hometown of Jewell, the first winner of "Nashville Star." Jewell's career has been steadily improving since he won the reality show one year ago; he now has a gold record, two hit singles, and several award nominations. His latest single, "One Step at a Time," is currently at radio. 6/6/04

New Conway Twitty-Anita Cochran Duet
Remember when recording technology produced Patsy Cline-Jim Reeves duets in the early 1980's? Technology has progressed in the past quarter century, and now Conway Twitty will sing a song he never recorded as a duet with Anita Cochran. The song is titled "(I Want to Hear) A Cheatin' Song," and it was written in 2003, ten years after Conway died of a stomach aneurysm. According to CMT, Cochran wrote the song after a conversation she had about Twitty with co-producer and Warner Brothers president Jim Ed Norman. So how was the duet created if Conway never recorded the song during his lifetime? Norman created Twitty's part of the "duet" by slicing out specific words and, in some cases, syllables from master recordings and putting them in the sequence Cochran's lyrics dictated. Twitty's widow Dee gave her approval to the project. The song will be included on Cochran's forthcoming album. 6/2/04

"Long Black Train" Nominated for Another Award
"Long Black Train" may not have been a top 5 hit on the Billboard singles chart, but the song has served Josh Turner well. On the success of that single, Josh sold over 600,000 copies of his debut album and was nominated for the Horizon Award at the ACM Awards last month. The accolades continue: The newcomer learned Friday, May 28th, that the single has been nominated for Song of the Year at the 2004 American Christian Music Awards. The awards will be doled out in September. 6/1/04

Worley Holds Another Tennessee River Run
For the past two years, Darryl Worley has held the Tennessee River Run, a weekend named after one of the songs on his second album. The singer has announced that he will hold the Third Annual Tennessee River Run on September 17th and 18th at the Pickwick Landing State Park Resort outside of Darryl's hometown of Savannah, Tennessee. The weekend will include a golf tournament, a fishing tournament, a 5K run, and a concert. As always, Darryl will perform at the show, but this year's attendees will also be treated to sets by John Anderson and John Conlee. The event benefits the Darryl Worley Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation that serves the needs of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, LeBonheur Children's Medical Center, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Hardin and McNairy Counties in Tennessee. The first two weekends, held in 2003 and 2002, have raised over $100,000. For more information, click here. 6/1/04
